MY ARTISTIC JOURNEY

I’m the daughter of a Mexicano from Jalisco, Mexico, and a Chicana from Texas, and my art reflects that rich cultural blend. Growing up, I was surrounded by the traditions, strength, and resilience of my heritage, which continue to shape my creative expression.

My work is deeply influenced by the bold colors, powerful symbols, and ancestral stories that connect me to my roots. Through every piece, I celebrate the beauty of my Mexicano, Chicana, and Indigenous identity—honoring the past while creating something new.

Mayda Murillo is a Las Vegas-based artist, originally from a small southern Idaho town. Her work is a reflection of her healing process, of remembrance, of love. A domestic violence survivor, a mom of four, with significant barriers in her life, Mayda uses the medium of painting to work through pain, turn it into beauty, and share it with others at an emotional level. Her work is inspired by family, life events, and the strong desire to honor the relationships transcending time. Mayda creates a healing space through her work while inspiring others to look at their lives and their remembrances. She continues to discover the power of the arts to heal, to empower, and to create love in the comfort of her home with her partner Marlon, her four beautiful kids, her doodle Snoop, and Shredder the turtle.
